Truckee has a little bit of everything to offer, and is not as crowded as Tahoe (most of the time). This relatively small park is deeply steeped in history, has amazing views and is worth a trip. The Park also fronts Donner Lake, has a short hiking trail, and is home to the Emigrant Trail Museum and Pioneer Monument. Donner Memorial State Park is dedicated to travelers and the Park’s Visitor’s Center features exhibits on the Donner Party, local Native Americans, and the builders of the First Transcontinental Railroad. This ill-fated group of settlers had nothing but bad luck as they traveled west. Of course, the most famous bit of history is the sad story of the Donner-Reed party. The downtown still boasts historic buildings that have survived fires, blizzards and more over the years. If you’re looking for a place that still has that Old West, old-timey feel to it, then head to Truckee. This lumber and mill town began life as stop over on the old Trans-Sierra wagon road in the late 1800s, and later as a stop on the Central Pacific Railroad. the whole home is available, there are no people to share space with, no shared walls or hosts, kids or guests living above or beneath you.Historic Truckee is located just a few miles north of North Lake Tahoe. Our Covid response is a very clean home and all surfaces get a antibacterial wipe down after each stay including handles and light switches!! Lots of hand soap available!! We are only renting the space every two weeks to allow a space between visits.
